My main spiritual totem is the Phoenix, also known as the Bennu, a female mythological bird symbolizing life after death, resurrection, and renewal. As we know, their are many kinds of death . . . . and rebirth.

In memory of my mother Elaine.this song was/is my "Eskimo" . . . Can
it really be over a year??? It seems impossible. I thank God for the gifts
of sobriety AND of recovery-- it enabled me to be truly with her, and
to have no unfinished business or regrets about things within my power
to change. It gave me the opportunity to make (for too few moments) the
ending of her life not just the dysfunctional and ;unacknowledged"
event of dying (that no one would discuss, not even her) it would have
been, but a spiritual (my beliefs) and religious (hers) rite of
passage. It kept me strong for her and for what followed. And I knew
she no longer faced pain or imprisonment-not by her failing body or
sight or mind. MY HP showed me that day at the hospice, her second day
there. Reality had come crashing down on me at last. Then, Grace
came-seeing the little bird walk in front of my path, whose wing (I
thought) was broken and knowing the certain peace (and not my normal
sorrow and pity) I had that it would soon be free once more and soaring
with joy, and so would she. Then to walk into the hospice to hear the
them singing this song. While it was more than I could stand at the
time, it was my HP speaking directly to me, I have no doubt. I can't
tell you the peace it gives me to hear this song, to hear a bird's
song, and to know you are exploring heights yet unseen by us.
I love you, Mom, and miss you terribly. But no matter how much, it is well with my soul.
NEVER FORGOTTEN
For all our Nation's patriots and heroes, all the loved ones lost in that terrible day of consummate violence and hatred. For all those who by superhuman acts of bravery were also lost--whether in the air or on the ground, those responding to the needs of others and placing their own lives in jeopardy no matter what the cost. For those who are suffering still today as a result of absolute selfless acts of courage in a time of desperate need. For those left behind to mourn. We stand in awe of such strength and keep you in our prayers.
For those patriots and heroes in our Armed Forces whose lives have also been forever changed since that fateful day . . . A grateful nation remembers you, too. And prays for peace.
. . . Well, i just had to put one of my all time favorite songs here . . .
