" Wow! I can't believe I made it one whole year. This is living proof that God is performing miracles in my life every single day. A little background information....... One year ago, on September 18, 2005, I was visiting Oklahoma City from Norman, where I was attending school, for my fathers birthday. The entire day went wonderfully. We had a great dinner, went shopping, watched a movie and ended up at my parents house to wind down. At about 9 - 10 o-clock, my mom and dad called me into their room to show me something. I had no idea what bomb was about to be dropped on me. I walked back there and they handed me a sheet and told me to read it. It was my friends arrest record for traficking pure black tar heroin across state lines, a federal case. I knew he had been arrested, but didn't know that my parents had found out. they then told me that my friends parents had contacted them and told my parents that they should test me since me and john, my friend, had been so close. My dad puled out a cup and said, " p***in it." I will never forget the horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and on the nape of my neck. I proceeded to find any excuse to not pee and to go home. To make a long story short...it didn't work and I pissed dirty; however, it was a multi test and didn't say which drugs I was dirty for. They asked me if I wanted to tell them what I was dirty for or if I wanted to wait for two weeks for the results to come in. Selfishly I told them that I wanted to wait and I went back to norman. That night I flushed the rest of my s***and started my cold turkey detox off my heroin addiction. I layed on my couch for twelve days shitting, puking, crying, laughing, basically going insane. After 12 days of detox, I knew I needed to go to my parents and tell them what was up before they got the test results back. I went home and told them everything and ended up in an inpatient treatment facility in Hunt, Texas a few days later. It was the greatest experience of my life. I rekindled a relationship with my higher power and came to belive that with the help of God, I could recover from that hopeless state of mind and body. I can now joyfully say that I am a recovered alcoholic and drug addict. I will never be cured, but I am recovered as a result of working these steps and working with other addicts and alcoholics. God continues to work miracles in my life and I can't wait to move back home to be close to my family. God has also put my wonderful girlfriend, frannie, in my life and she is moving home with me at the end of december. For the first time in my life, I am an honest, hard-working, trustworthy individual. I owe my life to my parents and to God. My gratitude starts with that thought in mind. God bless you all and STAY SOBER!!! I am living proof that anyone can get sober and life can still be as exciting and wonderful as ever.
